Welcome! I hope you enjoy my movie on Basic Warping for Backstrap Looms.
Here’s a closer look at the ”false crosses” that I mention in the video. Don’t let them concern you. They are supposed to be there and are a natural result of the way you are carrying the two threads. You can happily ignore them.
The picture below shows the eventual placement of the heddles and shed loop in relation to the false crosses…(click on image for a larger view)
My e-books (in PDF form) cover patterning techniques that can be used when winding a warp using Method 2 in the Basic Warping for Backstrap Looms free warping video.
Complementary-warp Pick-up (US$19) gives instructions for weavers who know how to use their loom and who can already weave plain warp-faced bands. That is the basic level of experience that is required in order to be able to enjoy this PDF. Any loom that can produce two basic sheds and allow you to weave warp-faced fabric can be used. You will be able to create bands that have patterns on both faces. The method taught in his book is the one that is used to weave the structure that I call Andean Pebble Weave.

If your loom of choice is the standard inkle loom, you may prefer Andean Pebble Weave on Inkle Looms (US$22). The methods taught in this PDF have been designed specifically for this kind of loom. The book begins with clear and detailed instructions on hw to warp your loom. Dozens of step-by-step photos are accompanied by detailed explanations to walk you through the method for creating double-faced patterns. The PDF includes supplementary instructional video clips which are accessed via links within the text. Andean Pebble Weave is one kind of woven structure that falls into the category known as Complementary-warp weaves.

Both books can be followed up by the Complementary-warp Pattern Book PDF (US$25)….There are 100 original and traditional patterns which include many that were designed by my students and other weavers who have been learning from my books. This book contains patterns for bands and beyond. Some of the patterns will be too large for the standard inkle loom.
